TF Hotel Mayo Intermediate Football Championship

Tourmakeady    0-11
Burrishoole        0-9

McHale Park,
Castlebar

Tourmakeady provided something of an upset when they triumphed in Sunday's Intermediate football final in McHale Park. The Gaeltacht men went in as underdogs against Colm McManamon's Burrishoole, who were unbeaten all year.
However in the final it was Tourmakeady who produced the performance and excellent displays from David Prendergast at full-back, Brendan Prendergast at centre-half back, John Heneghan at midfield and Tom and Brian Naughton and team captain Kevin Dolan in the forward line were crucial.
Dolan ended up with six points (four frees) and was a constant threat for whom Burrishoole couldn't cope. Tourmakeady also played an effective sweeping system in front of Burrishoole's full-forward line and the Newport men just never got into any stride.
Excellent midfielder James Moran put in a display that deserved more while Michael Moran and Jason Doherty tried hard in attack. But Tourmakeady had the greater aptitude on the day and they'll return to the senior ranks, winning their second title in four years and atoning for last year's final defeat to Westport.
For Burrishoole it was a great year but not the ideal finish. It would be foolish to bet against them next year though.
Tourmakeady will now play St James from Renmore/Mervue in Galway City in the Connacht semi-final on October 31 next. That game will take place in McHale Park.

Pics to follow later.
