Four time Mayo GAA All-star Colm Boyle joins Mayo minor backroom team

Mayo GAA minor football manager Sean Deane has confirmed this weekend that former Mayo GAA defender and four time All-star Colm Boyle has joined his backroom team as a selector and coach for the year ahead.

During an illustrious career that spanned an incredible 14 years with Mayo, Colm Boyle collected six Connacht medals, a National League title, an-Ireland U21 medal and he reached the All-Ireland football final with Mayo on six occasions.  The Davitts clubman also represented Ireland in the 2013 International Rules series.

A tenacious and tough-as-teak defender, Colm Boyle made his debut for Mayo under John O’Mahony in 2008.  ‘Boyler’ as he is affectionately known in Mayo, fought back from a torn cruciate ligament in 2020 to make the match day panel for the All-Ireland final against Dublin that year.  Colm Boyle made 120 league and championship appearances for Mayo during his career and is fondly remembered for his lung busting runs from the half-back line and for his ferocious tackling.

Commenting on the new appointment, Mayo GAA Cathaoirleach Seamus Tuohy said that Colm Boyle was an accomplished and inspirational defender.   “Colm always wore his heart on his sleeve when he pulled on the Mayo jersey and that is why he had such a special connection with the Mayo supporters.  I would like to wish Colm, minor manager Sean Deane and all the backroom team the very best for the year ahead.  I also want to thank Gary Ruane, who is stepping away from his role with the minors this year, for his dedication and commitment as a coach and selector with Mayo development squads and with the Mayo minors over the past few years,” commented Seamus Tuohy.

Mayo minor manager Sean Deane also confirmed that Shane McCann, Danny O’Toole, Martin Costello, Michael Gallagher, Dr. Pat O’Toole and Willie Joe McHale will be part of his management team for the upcoming season. Shane Nallen has stepped away as goalkeeper coach and the position for goalkeeper Coach is to be filled at a later date
